Jesse Collins

Singapore

On 2nd February 2026, the Living Music Foundation proudly welcomed a passionate young volunteer, Jessie Collins, a 19-year-old from Singapore, who spent an inspiring month working alongside our team in Mbarara. His visit was filled with learning, service, friendship, and unforgettable experiences that left a lasting impact on both our communities and Jessie himself.

Supporting Children Through Music and Care

Throughout his stay, Jessie actively participated in several community projects supported by the Living Music Foundation. He was not only helpful in the office but also deeply involved with children in different schools and communities.

One of his most meaningful contributions was at Cathy’s Kindergarten – Tiny Tots, where he lovingly cared for the children, participated in musical activities, and shared joyful moments with the young learners. His kindness and patience created a warm and encouraging environment for the children.

At Open Skies School in Byanamira, Jessie taught piano lessons to the children and spent valuable time interacting with them beyond the classroom. Through music, games, and conversations, he built strong connections and inspired many young learners to develop confidence and creativity.

He also worked closely with children at the Kabatereine Children Community, where he shared several lessons and participated in activities that encouraged learning, teamwork, and personal growth.

Building Friendships and Sharing Cultures

Jessie’s experience in Uganda went beyond volunteer work. In the evenings, he interacted with students attending music and evening classes at our center. During this time, he both taught and learned from the students, creating meaningful cultural exchange and genuine friendships.

Some students became so close to him that they invited him to attend their family functions during weekends — an experience that allowed him to witness the warmth, hospitality, and rich traditions of Ugandan culture firsthand.

Discovering the Beauty of Uganda

During his stay, Jessie also had the opportunity to explore the natural beauty of Uganda. Together with the Living Music Foundation team, he went on a safari adventure to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

The trip gave him a chance to enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the Kazinga Channel while observing wildlife such as hippos, crocodiles, elephants, lions, and many other animals in their natural habitat — a completely different experience from seeing animals in a zoo.

Experiencing Ugandan Hospitality

Jessie also enjoyed discovering the rich cuisine of western Uganda by trying different local dishes during his stay. He experienced good health throughout the month and greatly appreciated his homestay experience, which made him feel welcomed and at home far away from Singapore.

As his volunteering journey came to an end, Jessie was accompanied by Living Music Foundation Director Disan Kato and his wife on his journey back to Singapore, where he was warmly received by his parents.

A Message to Future Volunteers

At the Living Music Foundation, we believe that volunteering is more than service — it is about building friendships, sharing cultures, inspiring communities, and creating lifelong memories.

Jessie’s visit reminds us how powerful international volunteering can be in transforming lives on both sides. We warmly welcome volunteers from around the world who are passionate about music, education, community development, and cultural exchange.

If you would like to volunteer, partner with us, or support our programs, we invite you to become part of the Living Music Foundation family and experience the beauty, culture, and impact of community work in Uganda.
