Our Profile
The Living Music Foundation is a non-profit organisation based in Mbarara, Uganda, dedicated to empowering communities and youths and children through music. It offers free music lessons to children who are economically or socially challenged and lack access to musical education and instruments. By providing these resources, the foundation aims to foster personal growth, enhance self-esteem, and create economic opportunities for aspiring musicians.
The foundation also runs a volunteer program, inviting musicians and educators to contribute to its mission by teaching music in underserved communities. This initiative not only enriches the lives of the children but also promotes cultural exchange and community development. Through its efforts, the Living Music Foundation strives to transform lives by harnessing the power of music to spread happiness and purpose within the community.
Our Model
The Living Music Foundation’s music school provides lessons to students mainly without economic resources at the centre. In addition, we send our music teachers into challenged communities including slums, orphanages, local schools and children’s homes on a regular basis to provide music lessons and performances.

Our History
The Living Music Foundation was born in 2017 as a result of a meeting between Disan and Troy. Troy Peden, known for being the founder of GoAbroad.com and several non-profit and volunteer based organisations, visited Disan Kato in Uganda to deliver a much needed PA system for his band then, The Vessels.
Disan Kato is the founder and director of the Living Music Foundation (LMF) in Mbarara, Uganda. Orphaned by HIV/AIDS at a young age, he was raised by compassionate individuals who recognised and nurtured his musical talents. Despite financial challenges that led him to discontinue his computer science studies at Mbarara University, Disan pursued a career in music. He has become a multi-instrumentalist and gospel musician, proficient in piano, keyboard, guitar, and drums.
In 2018, in partnership with the GoAbroad Foundation, Disan Kato created The Living Music Foundation. Since 2024 Living Music Foundation e. V., a german registered non-profit organisation took over the partnership.
